Crystal when ?
The Cave of the Crystal is born from the idea of
Giuliano and Giuseppina Bandinelli in 1998.
The passion and the tradition in the workmanship of the Crystal it begins in 1966.
Our activity this year celebrates so its 40° anniversary.
Our laboratory has had here its first location in the Street of the Murolungo n°20 in Colle di Val d’Elsa.That is where now you can visit our rich exposure of Crystals engraved by hand.
Giuliano and Giuseppina Bandinelli began their artisian work,in the historical glassworks Boschi,storic and only reality Glasswereof a in Colle di Val d’Elsa in the years '60.
The passion is taken root more and more in these artisians,so much that in 1966 they decided a handicraft laboratory to family management to open.
A lot of the collaborations have been with glassworkses and glasswares of Colle di Val d’Elsa, in cronologic order: Glassworks Boschi, Glassworks V.I.T.A.C., Glassworks V.A.V., (artistic Glassworks Valdelsana), Glassworks Krisla, Glassware C.A.L.P. , Glassware Vilca, Glassware Arnolfo of Cambio, Glassware Corba.
Currently, some of the above-mentioned cristallerie,our providers of the Crystal objects.
Our work,of engraving and cut,start in the moment in which the teacher’s Glassware hand blowers,finish their job.
Transparencies of Crystal,with long lines,cross,archs,holes,and artistic creativeness make de “La Grotta del Cristallo” an artistic handicraft reality that our own passion hands down in the workmanship of the Crystal since 1960.
The History of the Glass before and of the Crystal,do that the experience of Giuliano Bandinelli has been in more occasions,on the center of jobs artistic facts on ordinations from our customers.
1996
Special year of the visit of Holiness Pope Giovanni Paul II, (Karol Woityla)
to a firm of Colle di Val d’Elsa:the Calp.Was March 19 th 1996 to St. Joseph Sua Holiness, as of usual, it celebrated the recurrence visiting a place of job. An event that for the firm and for all Colle di Val d’Elsa it is source of pride and emotion. For the occasion the firm gave an ostensorio to the Pope in Crystal composed by three parts, plinth, central body and raggiera, you manually realize with different techniques from the teachers glassworkers and subsequently carved by the teachers Engravers.
The ostensorio has a general weight of 18 Kgs., for a height of 84 cms. and a diameter of 40 cms. The ostensorio is found, today, in the pontifical apartments waiting for to be situated in the Museums Vaticani. For the same event other gifts in Crystal were realized for the Saint Father from artisans and glass blowers, among which a beautiful cup in carved Crystal and a great head of horse, symbol of the city of Colle di Val d’Elsa.Giuliano Bandinelli is one of these molatoris that he has Realized part of the cup.
1997
Copper amphoras inside a villa Piemontese:Rebuild on the base of the sketch original, in Cristallo,and grinded with the same motive for those originals.Just a Carthusian job that only an artisan experience can realize.
1998
Opening in the day 5 September of our show room “La Grotta del Cristallo”.
In this occasion (opening of the review Crystal among the Walls - Cristallo tra le Mura) manifold the realizations have been about to frequently enrich our unique negozio.Pezzi in number limitato,ma in single number.Unique pieces that are not repeatable in a production in series it dates the difficulty in to realize them.
1999
Sampled Italian of Judo to Bologna:Created a dish with representation of the logo of the exbition,very rich with precious engravings to make the really particular and suggestive trophy for this sporting demonstration.
2000
Realization of Crystals for a piece of furniture in walnut-tree ingot to 1564 showcase.
Representation of the Giglio,symbol of the city of Florence,where such object is found inside a villa Medicea.
2001
Realization of a Fruit dish with a foot. Completly grinded with inlays trsparents, lines to “visù” rappresent of wheat in a sequence of spectacular movements of the principal motive.
2002
Study of incisions on pyramids in Crystal for particular optical effects.This is that only in more recent times somebody has been realized by other firms with the help of the laser.We of the “la Grotta del Crristallo” don’t use this technique. Just because we are artisan and the laser is too much modern…. for the history of our laboratory.The satisfaction we remain in the realized possession this typology of objects when anchors anybody had thought of us.

2004
Realization of great vases of superior height of 1,60 meters.
Study and realization of objects to enrich furnishings in ancient and modern style of Crystals in smooth and engraved.
2005 Realization of Pastoral. Completly in Crystal, engraved, on the style of the pastoral one in silver of Benvenuto Cellini.Donation from Giuliano Bandinelli to Msg. Veris Consumi and from him subsequently given to the museum of sacred Art of the Collegiate one of San Gimignano.The Donation it derives from the artistic sensibility of Giuliano Bandinelli that in every work it puts soul and passion to perform workmanships possible uniche.You can see it inside the Museum of Sacred Art of San Gimignano.

Brief history of the Museum in San Gimignano:
The Museum was created in 1915 and entertained in the Sacristy of the Parish up to 1929, year of its definitive setup in the actual center. Recently rearranged, nderstands the material coming from convents or churches or from the same Collegiate, sometimes from donations of privacies. Some objects belong to the Comune. Articulated in more rooms, the Museum possesses valuable objects. We remember the wooden sculptures of the XIV century: The express Annunciation through the two statues of the angel and the Madonna, of which the bust and the Crucifix that it misses some hands and it supports the feet on a wood clog and the splendid Chorals and Antifonari of Niccolò of Ser Filthy Tegliacci remains only, and of Lippo Vanni, of the XIV century. In front of the chorals they are exposed: the Rosa's Madonna (you see photo in head) part of a trittico of Bartolo of Fredi. In the room of the silvers, thin examples of oreficeria worked to start or to chisel. Considerable works of tall craftsmanship of notable and refined technical, in maximum part secentesca and eighteenth-century, plotted in silk and satin gallonati in gold or silver.
